The point is you can determine how the thing sounds yourself, instead of using something that you might dislike, you can make it sound the way you want it.īut the main point is that you can be original, no one has Access to your creations, yet everyone has access to the presets, you can create personal to you sounds, you can make unique different sounds that aren't used by anyone else EVER.Īlso, it's soo fucking easy, like sytrus is a piece of cake to learn, you don't even need to know about the maths and stuff and how to perfectly make things, because 90% of the time just messing around with random shit will get amazing results. Secondly, "half baked sound design" isn't the point. It would be kind a silly of me to do half baked sound design when others do it right.įirstly, there isn't a great deal of presets in most vsts and rompers, even omnisphere, while having thousands of presets, I can still usually tell if a beat was made using it. With the endless presets and romplers out there. Not to mention the tipping point was realizing that I cannot use 3xOsc within Patcher because it is technically not a synth but a sampler channel with oscillator generation. Of course it has been a great time, with most of it involving aimless tweaking, but now I'm gaining some real power and control like I never had from learning synthesis properly. This is coming from a guy who's only synth for 8 years was 3xOsc routed through fx chains. I find out about new amazing capabilities in FL every day and keep saying "how did I not know about this all this time?" It's time I do what i should have done sooner. I'm tired of the drip feed style of learning that trial and error and youtube tutorials has given me. My next mission is to read the entire FL Studio manual at least once through. So far I feel like I've levelled up so much just from learning Sytrus, and it has also taught me things about the way FL Studio works on a granular level that I didn't know before.

From there I work my way through reading the regular manuals and use youtube videos to further cement anything. "Sytrus Expanded Manual" and "Harmor Expanded Manual" are what I'm talking about.

I worked through Sytrus and am about to start working through Harmor using Jens Malmgren tutorial pdfs which you can search online.
